In what has become a tradition on this site – it’s been a while since my last post. But plenty has been happening in the brand new studio this year… with the exception of a 5 month-or-so gap where I was renovating a house.
The main thing is that an album I was producing last year, and for a bit of this year, has finally released, and it’s a fair departure from my usual output. Local metal outfit Inhabit wanted me to produce their first LP ‘Burnout’ and, despite my insistence that it lay a considerable distance from my comfort zone, they were not dissuaded and I did my best to give them what they were looking for. The final result is 12 tracks of nu-metal meets hardcore with a big, atmospheric sound that was a huge educational experience for me as a mixer and producer. Best of luck to the Inhabit lads as they start touring it across the UK this October!
Elsewhere, I’ve done a few more podcast themes – most notably for Punnit, a wordplay gameshow; I’ve started working as an in-house producer for up-and-coming Australian record label Gloria Records; I did a short score for a Korean alt-history game that’s in production (listen to some of that here), and I was doing the soundtrack for a horror game inspired by a farcical incident in the news in the UK but sadly it got cancelled. Whilst that was a shame, in my efforts to find some interesting new tools to use (read: an excuse to buy more plugins), I did discover the incredible work of Freakshow Industries.
