Goblin Market

LUDS’ Goblin Market was a dark twist on Christina Rossetti’s narrative poem and the classic fairy tale genre by the award-winning Liverpool University Drama Society, directed by Zoe Wiles and told through expressive movement and original poetry. The show’s previews were held at The Kazimier Garden, Liverpool in July 2013 and it went on to be performed to audiences at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.

Alex composed an eerie landscape for the underscore, using unconventional techniques on folk instrumentation to conjure a fantasy woodland environment. The soundtrack also includes an original song written for the show, set to Rossetti’s poetry and performed live by the cast members for Lizzie and Laura. After the production ended, the track ‘Transitions’ was used by the BBC for their Words and Music programme (‘Mermaids’ – first broadcast BBC Radio 3, 29 Sep 2013).
